Sundays are not a day of rest. Now- now don't think for one second we don't enjoy and need each and every meeting on the Sabbath, but with our little monster RUNNING around it gets exhausting. (Don't let Darren know, but he even came home with sweat rings from chasing Luke for 3 hours)
I'm so grateful that for the couple of minutes here and there during each Sunday when we take turns keeping the guy happy and get those doses of spiritual medicine we need for the week. I know I couldn't get through the week without them.
Such an angel.
Calm before the storm. (and yes I know he is wearing white socks...such a fashion no-no)
Here let me break it down for ya:
10:53 Arrive at church. 7 minutes early and already in the 2nd to last row of the first overflow (our ward fills half of the gym for the the overflow). This is the first sign of a long meeting. Getting a pew is KEY!
10:55 Already running out in the hall to try and go outside.
11:00 Luke has rummaged through my suitcase purse to see what goodies mom brought. Nothing interests him but the cheetos.
11:15 L is getting aggressive about getting out into the hall now. A little girl even loudly says to her parents "Mommy do you hear that big baby crying?" It was hilarious. Seriously, I think moments like that are funny.
11:18 Cheetos.
11:20-12:00 Doing anything to keep him entertained. ANYTHING.
12:10 Meet Darren in the hall with all the other parents who have toddlers.
12:20 Attempt Nursery. We are starting this early as my son has major major don't-let-mom-or-dad-out-of-my-sight-or-I-will-freak-out anxiety.
12:35 L's Totally done with nursery.
12:35-1:00 Walk the halls.
Now I'm too tired to even keep going for the last hour...
Do I blame Luke? No! He's a curious adventurous toddler.
My dad tells me I won't be enjoying church (like come and sit and enjoy every meeting church) for another 20 years. I think he might be right. He might just know a thing or two about this church business especially with 2 boys 18 months apart (or maybe my mom has told him a thing or two about this topic). But I do know, it is worth it to get to church every week. I need the Sacrament. I need the Spirit. I need to show my children that I know this Church is true. That's my hope and prayer as I'm walking the hall with a little one (I'm hoping there will be more little ones in the future).
I take back my "Sundays are not a day of rest" because when we get home, the little guy wants his church clothes off, his blanket, and a 3 hour nap.
I love Sundays, I really REALLY do.
Just one more, cause I just want to eat him when he's dressed like this and laying like this. No posing was done here.

Ha, I feel the same way:) Cute pic of L too.
I'm experiencing this already. I finally get to go to Relief Society and Lucy won't nap in my arms or her car seat. She wants her crib, and won't stop fussing until she gets it! For the last few weeks I am basically forced to go home the last hour of church. DR thinks I'm so lucky to cut out on an hour of church. But the truth is, I miss that last hour of church. Your dad is right.... church won't be the same for a while.
Did you just read my mind? Luke and Travis remind me so much of eachother. It must be the age. Don't worry it does get easier. They do eventually turn 18 months :)
you are a star blogger keisha! i'm impressed. i want to be better!
love that picture of lukesy. he always does look very grown up at church.
i know how hard these months are before nursery. but lucky for you, you don't have a newborn and in a couple months i promise you WILL be able to focus at church. the last few months have been awesome as i've been able to really listen to the lessons. you'll love it and you're soooo close!
honestly what has helped us is refusing to take quinn out in the foyer. it was really difficult at first and sometimes embarassing. but once we set a standard that he was not allowed to go out in the foyer he stopped acting out. unless of course we are 4o minutes late to church like we were yesterday :)
xo
Just yesterday I sat and listened to all the screaming kids and thought I better enjoy the last few weeks cause its never going to be the same!?!?
DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ugh. church.
i mean that in a totally non-sacreligious way:)
p.s. - those pictures? ADORABLE!
Agreed!!! Thank you so much for this post! It feels so good to know someone else is going through the same thing!
