being sick

DISCLAIMER: if you are reading this post with the mentality of "wo is me" then you are wrong.  Darren is super sweet when i'm sick... i'm just posting about the difference between when i'm sick and he's sick. so for the guys that read my blog {i think there might be 5...maybe} don't get offended.

over the last week, darren has been sick twice. i hate it when he's sick.  he's rarely sick, so when he came down with the stomach flu last monday and then the aches and fever on sunday- i have had enough {with the sickness-not darren}.  it is time to go get flu shots and have the lysol as the centerpiece of our table.

i find myself getting jealous of him when he's sick, here's why:

if he's sick:

he just stays in bed and sleeps
writes a couple of emails to tell people he is down for the day
i make him chicken noodle soup for lunch
i run to macy's when both boys are sleeping and get him gatorade/sprite etc. to have when he wakes up
i do the laundry
have candles going {it makes me feel better when someone is sick to have a good scent in the house}
take care of luke
keep the house somewhat quiet so he can keep sleeping
make him dinner

if i'm sick:

i toss and turn while darren is getting ready to go...cause I really just want/need to sleep but who's going to take care of luke?
we have a conversation about whether i can handle luke all day while he gone with a fever/throwing up/ etc.
i cry of stress because i just want to feel better and sleep
i cry cause i worry about having the strength to carry the little tyke up the stairs
the house is a disaster by the end of the day
it doesn't smell good {but it doesn't smell bad}
if i am hungry- i wonder what i can have with the least amount of effort
then when darren comes back, i feel guilty that the house is a mess and the boys have to figure out dinner/bedtime etc.

it just isn't fair when dad's are sick. it's a simple fact of life.
and just so you know, darr really is great when i am sick- it is just the reality of life.

i honestly couldn't agree with this more. when andrew is sick i have ZERO tolerance for it. i feel like such a nazi. but the world doesn't stop for me, why should it him???
