luke has done really well all summer in the water. i've shown video of him jumping off a beach chair touching the bottom and kicking to the top a couple of times on the blog this summer. Darr and I both felt like we wanted to get him into lessons but knew that the mommy and tot type wouldn't cut it for luke, and that what's mainly offered for kids his age.
i saw a video my friend posted on facebook of her little girls swimming and knew i wanted to do something like that. so after a quick facebook message and a phone call to Pam, we were setup for private swim lessons for luke.
so before we get into videos/picture of him looking miserable let me just say a couple of things about the last 3 weeks.
His teacher, Pam, is incredible. From the moment I met her I've trusted her completely. She's so great with pushing Luke to do new things but being so positive and soft spoken and supportive the entire time. He needs someone, other than family, to trust. She's perfect.
Darren and I both feel like swimming is a life long skill that NEEDS to be learned. He's shown interest and hates the floaties with all his heart, that starting him this young just makes sense for him. (and no no no I'm not putting him in the pool anytime soon for a free for all swim)
Although he screams through the entire lesson, he never has fought me putting on his swim suit each morning as we head out the door. Pam thinks it is just a habit he's developed. He just doesn't know what else to do in the water... oh, luke. And after 2 lessons he stopped fighting her in the water.
he's just a screamer... :\ until he's done with the lesson and then he turns from the chair and waves to Pam. Such a ham!
he also doesn't scream or fight us when we swim together for fun and pushing him to do the same things he's learning with Pam during the lessons. Wahoo for learning!
so here is the video I shot the first day of lessons. Notice him fighting her with all his might to not be on his back.
and here is footage from today (his last lesson of the everyday 3 week program)...
seriously, just ignore him screaming. be like my brothers and laugh with luke as they watch it later.
We are thrilled with his progress. He's on his way to being a "super swimmer".

So proud of my little swimmer dude!
STUD.
Wow! I'm so impressed. Way to go Luke! You're so smart for doing swim lessons, especially since your family loves the lake so much.
go lukesy!!!
something i'm growing to love more and more about our neighborhood is being able to watch these little people grow! i feel like it was just yesterday that luke was a tiny & now he's a full fledged boy! it's so fun to be a little part of this sweet boy's life!
I think it's awesome that you're doing this. When Dekker did these lessons last year (age 3) by the end he was jumping off the diving board by himself and coming up and onto his back. Pam Young is awesome.
