here are some things i have said or done in the last four days:
"luke is acting like one of those babies you get in jr. high where the just break out crying just to cry and won't stop"
"it is either give him drugs {ibuprofen} or he can watch Cars" - we often choose Cars
i have found myself feeding luke while watching his Car movie so he will eat something worthwhile. he doesn't realize what is going on during this time frame, so we sneak in peas, chicken, rice, etc. vs crackers and craisens.
"luke what is wrong? i just have to use the bathroom for 2 minutes. you will be fine." this is followed by "mama coinciding with crying.
we've cancelled a playdate because i didn't want anyone else to have to hear the whining.
i've burst into tears while my little boy cries.
speed dial to my mom is pressed multiple times a day telling her i just don't get it. what's wrong with luke?!
i've sat down and played with my monster and got him laughing so hard i almost peed my pants and i'm sure he did.
we ventured to the pool. luke had the "meltdown of the century" being in the water. so we got out and sat on a chair with our towels. i then had a conversation that went this:
"luke mama just spent five dollars to get in here, we aren't leaving yet. you love the pool. so we are going to sit here for a minute until you feel you are ready to get back in"
after sitting for a couple of minutes and watching bigger boys play in the pool i hear "hi" and eagerness to get back in. followed by an hour of intense playing.
i've watched luke imitate his buddy Q. because he's bigger and cooler.
luke wanted his mama last night and for the first time i rocked my stinks to sleep. i hesitated to do this {sleep training} but the mother inside me couldn't resist. as i sat there with my little man, i just felt so much unconditional love between the two of us. we are both learning about our new world each and every day. some days are so fun. other days we watch the clock until the minute L can go to bed. but no matter how the day went, i wouldn't know what to do without him in my life.
i've had this smiling at me while playing in the tub and my heart melts.
i just want to say to the tooth people-- seriously stop making my kid teethe... it is driving all of us crazy. Luke had all 4 molars BY HIS FIRST BIRTHDAY. and we just discovered today that a canine is emerging. seriously?! stop and think about that for a second. google when a child should get his canines... and maybe you will get some sympathy for the kid {and for me}.
so thank you mom for letting me whine to you for the last four days. thank you darren for being patient with all of us. thank you soda for making the afternoon a little more bearable. thank you chocolate for a moment of bliss. thank you bedtime for coming each and every night.
and thank you luke for being my baby. i love you- teething and all.
and sorry if you just read all the stuff.
