Last night was my (our) breaking point.  Luke was up crying for almost 2 hours straight last night (and the night before & before & before... - worse than I dare say newborn).  After comforting him, medicine, new diaper, and plain just letting him cry it out. It didn't work.  Darren and I lay in bed hearing him moan and cry for almost an hour and half.  As sad as it sounds, it made me miss the "good ole days" of when he would cry for like 20 minutes and go right back to sleep.  At around 5 the little guy finally settled down with his dad. Honestly, this kid is obsessed with Darren- and I don't have a problem with it... especially at 5 in the morning.

Hoping he would "sleep in" from the chaos of the night. He was awake right at 7:50. ugh.  And it wasn't a "happy awake" he was crying. really?! It's just not a motivating way to start your day.

Trying to not let all the "drama" from the night ruin the day, we did go have tons of fun at Kangaroo Zoo.  It took some time to warm up to the big bouncy things, but once Luke did- there wasn't much stopping him. EXCEPT he kept holding his ears.  He would take off running and then stop to hold the ears.  I could tell a battle was going on.

Luke and I got through lunch and as I put him down for a nap, he held the ears.  He went down great, and it started for me.  I pressed speed dial on the blackberry and started the sob story to my mom...

In tears I started saying things like...
"Why can't we just have a break from teething. He is not even 15 months with 16 teeth!!!" (the 4th canine is almost through)
"I just feel dumb (which ironically is so stupid) calling my pediatric office to say my baby is whiny & I need advice and think something is wrong"
--around 4 statements kept getting repeated over and over for about a half an hour.

My mom patiently listened and was firm on getting him into the doctor's today. I'm so glad she was.

Luke has a double ear infection. Not the worst they've seen (hallelujah) but definitely in need of antibiotics and attention.

I found myself smiling and being so happy and relieved. Not because Luke has an ear infection, but that it was soOooo easy to see what was causing the pain and crying. He had no fever- no runny nose.

The mystery was solved.

So the pink medicine begins for the next 10 days. Unfortunately Luke HATES hates HATES it.  I have a feeling we are going to go through a lot of onesies and oxyclean. But we have a solution and I'm so grateful.

I'm so grateful for modern medicine & technology. I'm grateful for The Spirit. I'm grateful for Darren.

and I'm grateful for Luke-- because if I've been reminded of one thing this week it is to be so grateful for these little miracle babies in our lives (every baby is a miracle).  Although the cries and caring gets exhausting, I couldn't imagine my life without him.  He makes my life so full, so happy.

The parenting journey is one heck of a ride.

SO GLAD YOU FOUND THE PROBLEM! Not that you want to find out your child has an ear infection, but he has probably had it for awhile, it probably explains a lot!!

I can not imagine! i know somedays you just want to crawl in bed and cry, but we have to keep pressing forward...as hard and as corny as it sounds. good luck with the healing process, so glad you were able to find the solution to the little guys problem!

Oh how I can relate! My little one just had a double ear infection and oh boy how that can ruin several nights (and days) in a row! Thank Heaven for parents who convince us to take our kids in to be seen, eh!
