Real Baby Food

L has done REALLY well with rice cereal for the last month or so, and I knew we were getting close to starting REAL food.
My cousin (really more of a sister), Devrie, is a RD (Registered Dietitian) and knows her stuff.  She also is a fantastic mom, and I look up to her constantly.  She should know this by the amount of questions I'm always asking her.

She has a great nutrition blog: http://biterite.blogspot.com/

I asked her to come help me yesterday make my first batch of "Luke food".  I've heard and read about the benefits of making your own baby food.  The biggest benefit: $$$

We headed to the grocery store and purchased

A Sweet Potato. Spinach .Carrots. Peas. Peaches. Bananas.
Ice cube trays. Take & Go Containers.
I'm so proud to say the total for all of this food and containers was $30
We compared prices @ the store with organic baby food: 1.09 each.
I ended up making about 62 servings of food.  You do the math.

We boiled and baked the food.
Pureed it in the MAGIC BULLET (which worked great) and poured into the cube tray.

So you all are wondering what L had for dinner...
SWEET POTATOES
and he LOVED them.
He didn't let any drop from the spoon and was mad when he figured out we were all done.

Thank you DEV!! I wouldn't/couldn't have done it without you!!

i am officially printing this out! we've been meaning to start elle on solids, but have been wanting to wait until my crazy full workdays end after general conference! this is now at the top of my list. everyone has been negative about how "hard" it is to make your own food, but i'd REALLY like to do it. you've inspired me.
