My Grandpa

So for all of you that follow the blog... I apologize for the last few posts. For Darren and I, we have had quite an emotional 10 days. I just want to share with you all little about my Grandpa.

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend, Dean Frandsen, 81, of Roosevelt, returned to our Heavenly Father on Nov. 30, 2008.

He was born March 20, 1927, in Myton, to Vernal and Elizabeth Young Frandsen. He married Velma Dean Todd on March 4, 1948, in the St. George LDS Temple. Dean served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then was called up to serve in the Korean Conflict. When he returned from the military, he started Frandsen’s Body Shop and then later became a real estate broker for Strout Realty and established and owned Frandsen Realty. He enjoyed working with his hands and could fix anything.

He kept an immaculate yard and was constantly making improvements. He really liked traveling and knew every side road in the Basin. His wife and he had great times visiting many places around the world. He loved hunting, fishing and just being in the outdoors. His love for the outdoors began at an early age, as he spent many summers in the mountains as a young boy herding sheep with his family. He was active in the LDS Church and served as a Bishop, Scoutmaster, Young Men’s President, High Councilor, Temple Worker, missionary with his wife, Velma, in the Oakland, California Mission, and Branch President of the Randlett Branch.

As a scoutmaster, he loved helping the boys achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Dean had a wonderful sense of humor, which he was able to keep until the very end. He was a fun practical joker and had a great attitude about everything. He loved his grandkids and was happiest when they were with him.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Velma, of Roosevelt; children, Allan Dean (Shirley) Frandsen, Roosevelt, Jolene (Dan) Ashcraft, Hazelton, Idaho, Lynette (Dan) McKittrick, Cedar City, Melinda (Tim) King, Vernal, Denise (Rick) Fielding, Salt Lake City, and Shannon (Rich) Hill, Sandy; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clark (Lila) Frandsen, Salt Lake City, and Clay (Tammy) Frandsen, Lindon; and brother-in-law, Clyde Killian, Roosevelt.

Dean was preceded in death by his sister, Joy; and a grandson, Gavin Ashcraft.

I will always appreciate the profound influence my grandpa has had on my life! I love you Grandpa!

p.s. I will always miss the back stratches... they were the BEST

Keisha I'm very sorry to hear that! I can only imagine how sad these last couple of weeks have been for you. I know you were also close with Clay Rob and his family. I hope you can find some sort of peace right now. I'll be thinking of you!

Keisha, it's always hard to lose a loved one no matter their situation or age. I'm sorry that you have gone through some rough times lately. I hope you can find peace in the knowledge of the plan of salvation. Thank you for your support to me when I was struggling. You have such a strong spirit and are a great example to me. Sorry to be so serious and corny.
Love, Mal
