Morgan's birth story

I can't believe I have three kids... three kids.... THREE BOYS!!

I got pregnant with Morgan very quickly. I found out I was pregnant the night before Darren raced in his second LOTOJA.  I had just dropped Luke and Graham off with Grandma and Grandpa for the weekend and knew I was late... so I stopped at Walgreens on my way home to pick up a stick.

Positive.

It was kind of a shock. It definitely gave Darren and I something to think about the next day during the race.  I thought I could keep it a secret for awhile, but I immediately told my mom and Jenna.  I just needed more than Darren to know.

During the first trimester, I had to go on progesterone because my levels were so low.  They found it because I thought I might be having a tubal pregnancy due to some pain I was having.  All was well, obviously, but I'm glad they caught those levels so quickly.  Progesterone made me very tired and sick.  First trimester is really never fun, but this was all happening while Luke was having bouts of pneumonia and we were desperately trying to figure out what was going on.  We spent hours at Primary Children's and even went to the measures to replace all of our carpet and flooring in our house.  It was pretty stressful around here, and I'm grateful to my mom and Karen for being around during those times.  Darren also took his first trip to China in this period and that was an adventure...

Second trimester bliss.  I felt pretty good through this time.  We found out Morgan was a boy in the first 10 seconds of the ultrasound on December 23rd.  haha, I can recognize a penis so fast these days.  It was a bit overwhelming thinking about the all boy thing, but also relieving as I know the boy thing.  I struggled with people's responses about not getting a girl, but got through most of them with a fake smile.

And finally... the third trimester.  The longest months of your life.  You are so big and miserable.  The last month about killed me.  I was so ready for Morgan to be out and not feel so sick and fat.  May 4th couldn't come quick enough.

The morning of May 4th, the day at finally come to meet Mr. Morgan.

We arrived at the hospital at 7.  I was the first induction of the day.  Thank heavens for that, because the delivery floor was crazy that day.  I was able to get my epidural and everything hooked up and going by about 9:30.  The delivery nurse, Diane, was predicting it was going to be a long labor since I was only at a 2 to start, but I was hoping for another Graham delivery.

I progressed steadily and could feel every contraction.  All of the sudden I was like "I want to push, and I swear this baby is here." The nurse came in and sure enough... it was go time.  I asked her if we could go over pushing and she told me we would have time before Watabe came in. We never got to the pushing techniques.

Dr. Watabe came into my room put on his gear and told me to start pushing right then.  I did one big push, then another and Morgan was out.  Morgan was here, and he was as calm as could be.  I kept asking the nurses and Darren if he was okay.  His cries were so little and he was so calm.  He came out weighing 8 pounds 14 ounces and 20 1/2 inches long.  Another big boy.

My heart grew again that day.  My labor was pretty perfect.  I did have a couple hiccups after, like needing a catheter put back in to empty out a liter of pee that wouldn't come out.  Which later led to a UTI.  After a night at the hospital, I was ready to go home.  I hated the bed.  It was a juggling match to take care of Luke and Graham, and every time I would try to get some rest, a nurse would pop in to see if I needed anything.  I was done.  So we left within 24 hours.  It was nice to come home and have my bed and my things.

And so begins our life with Morgan.  He hasn't been with us for very long, yet we feel like he's been with us forever.  :)

I'm a mama to all boys and I'm happy! Scared (if I'm being honest) but happy.
